Asian American Distinguished Speaker Series

The Asian American Distinguished Speaker Series honors innovative, creative, and effective Asian American leaders and celebrates their contributions, especially as the visibility of Asian American leadership and success is often overlooked.

2024 SPEAKER: DAVID SIEV

Filmmaker David Siev, whose Michigan-based documentary "Bad Axe" was shortlisted for a 2022 Academy Award, will screen his film and deliver the keynote lecture for the Asian American Distinguished Speaker Series on Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 p.m. in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.  Jennifer Huynh, assistant professor of American Studies, will moderate the event and a reception will follow, featuring food by Rachel’s of Bad Axe, the Siev family’s restaurant.

2022 SPEAKER: MARCUS FREEMAN

Marcus Freeman, the University of Notre Dame Dick Corbett Head Football Coach, was the featured speaker for 2022, on April 27 in the Patricia George Decio Theatre at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. The conversation was moderated by Tarryn Chun, assistant director of film, television, and theatre and a Liu Institute faculty fellow. 

2021 SPEAKER: AI-JEN POO

The inaugural event on March 11, 2021, featured Ai-jen Poo, co-founder and CEO of the National Domestic Workers Alliance. Marie Lynn Miranda, Notre Dame's Charles & Jill Fischer Provost, served as moderator. The event was cosponsored by Notre Dame's Center for Social Concerns and the Higgins Labor Program.
