Strategic Plan 2025–2029

The Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies is dedicated to education and research about Asia and Asian studies. We approach Asia in a distinctive manner that reflects the mission of the University of Notre Dame—integrating social engagement with collaborative, intellectual inquiry, and spiritual respect and awareness. As one of the founding institutes of the Keough School of Global Affairs, the Liu Institute is expanding its reach within the Notre Dame community and the world.

Our Five Goals Seek To:

1. To expand the scope and number of our flagship interdisciplinary research and teaching clusters.
2. To sharpen our focus on East and South Asia, to encourage comparative work across these regions, and to explore their connections with Southeast Asia.
3. To promote and improve integration of Asian Studies into the programs of the Keough School of Global Affairs.
4. To develop reciprocal relationships with partners in Asia, facilitating meaningful student and faculty mobility in both directions.
5. To contribute Asian Studies expertise and Asian perspectives to strategic University-wide initiatives, to the University core curriculum, and to graduate-level training.
