Yeonhee Yoon, a Korean language and culture professor and Liu Institute faculty fellow, has coedited "The Korean Wave from a Private Commodity to a Public Good." Published by Korea University Press, the book examines the idea that a cultural phenomenon called the “Korean wave”—increased global popularity of South Korean culture—has become an international public good. The book analyzes the Korean wave through the lenses of power, profit, and identity. In particular, it examines the intriguing process of politicization, where the Korean wave and the local culture coexist and conflict.

The Liu Institute facilitated the development of the book by sponsoring conferences in 2014 and 2016.

The book is coedited by Kiwoong Yang, a professor of international relations at Hallym University in South Korea and former visiting fellow with the Liu Institute.
