Yeonhee Yoon and Karen Chen '18
Yeonhee Yoon, a Korean language and culture professor and Liu Institute fellow, has received the University’s Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
The award honors faculty members who have had a profound influence on undergraduate students through sustained exemplary teaching at Notre Dame. In particular, the Joyce award recognizes faculty who:
• Create environments that stimulate significant student learning
• Elevate students to a new level of intellectual engagement
• Foster students’ ability to express themselves effectively within the discipline
Yoon serves as coordinator for the Korean Language Program and joined Notre Dame in 2013. She has developed not only a rigorous Korean language program, but also courses taught in English that focus on contemporary Korea, such as Korean Society & Popular Culture and Exploring Korean History & Culture through Film, both of which attract students from every college and major.
She earned a BS from Ewha Women's University, Seoul, and an MA and PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
