The University of Notre Dame’s Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies and Institute for Ethics and the Common Good (ECS) will support a visiting scholar to examine ethics and Asia during the 2026-27 academic year.

While ECS visiting faculty fellowships are well established, this is the first time the Liu Institute is supporting an ECS scholar to examine an ethics theme through an Asian Studies perspective. Internal and external scholars are invited to apply for the Love Ethic Faculty Fellowship and/or the Faith and AI Faculty Fellowship through the ECS website. Applications are due by October 13, 2025.

The Love Ethic Faculty Fellowship will support five scholars to join an interdisciplinary cohort to advance research on love as the foundation for ethics.

The Faith and AI Faculty Fellowship will also support five scholars to examine the role of faith traditions in shaping the ethical future of artificial intelligence.

Both fellowships are open to U.S. and international scholars at any career stage, including tenured faculty and postdoctoral researchers. The Love Ethic fellowship is also open to independent scholars, journalists, artists, and others whose work aligns meaningfully with the fellowship theme.

Fellows live in residence at the University of Notre Dame for the academic year. Each fellowship includes up to $80,000 in funding, subsidized housing, and a research allowance. Fellows participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary community and take part in regular seminars and collaborative events.

Fellows participate fully in the life and work of the ECG, which includes attending orientation and spring retreats, attending research seminars and presenting twice, attending ECG events, and remaining in residence in South Bend during the fellowship (mid August through early May).

A fellow sponsored by the Liu Institute will engage in monthly meetings with the Institute’s working groups and attend flagship events, including the Asia Leadership Forum, Justice and Asia Distinguished Lecture, Asian American Distinguished Speaker Series, and book launches for the Liu Institute Series on Chinese Christianities.
