After a long hiatus the Asian Indian Classical Music Society is resuming its free concerts. The October 16 concert will feature:

Pandit Rupak Kulkarni (flute) is the prime disciple of the legendary flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and a torch bearer of the Maihar Gharana, made famous by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar. After training with his father, the late Pt. Malhar Rao Kulkarni, he began his tutelage under Pandit Hariprasad at the age of 9. Since his first solo flute performance at the age of 11, he has performed in numerous prestigious music conferences and concerts in India, the US, the UK, Russia, Japan and France, appeared regularly on radio and TV, including All India Radio, Doordarshan, STAR TV and Zee TV, and his recording have been released by major labels such as Times Music, HMV, and Navras.

Pandit Indrajit Banerjee (sitar) is one of the leading sitar exponents of the Maihar Gharana mentioned earlier. Inspired by his sitarist mother he trained under Pandit Manilal Nag and, later, Pandit Kartick Kumar. He has performed extensively in India, the US, Canada, Europe, and Central and South America, won several prestigious awards in India and abroad, released several CDs and DVDs, and established the Antara School of Indian Classical Music in Austin, Texas.

Hindole Majumdar (tabla) already occupies a commendable position among the younger generation of  tabla players. He received his training from Shibsankar Karmakar, a disciple of the late Ustad Karamatullah Khan, and from Pandit Sankha Chatterjee. A graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has won numerous awards, including the first prize at several All Bengal tabla solo competitions. He has established a school of music at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he teaches tabla.
