About the Panel

Sharon Yoon and Alyssa Park will examine intra-Asian Korean migration in the context of their new books—Yoon’s The Cost of Belonging: An Ethnography of Solidarity and Mobility in Beijing's Koreatown (Oxford University Press, 2020) and Park’s Sovereignty Experiments: Korean Migrants and the Building of Borders in Northeast Asia, 1860–1945 (Cornell University Press, 2019). Moderator Andre Schmid is a researcher of 19th and 20th century Korea and East Asia.

Author Sharon Yoon is an assistant professor of Korean Studies at Notre Dame's Keough School of Global Affairs. The Cost of Belonging is scheduled to be released in November 2020.

Discussant Alyssa Park is an associate professor of History at the University of Iowa.

Moderator Andre Schmid is an associate professor of East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto.
