The event opens with the lecture “Digital Empire: Encoding Biography and Social Network Analysis” by Liang Cai, a University of Notre Dame history professor.

Afterward, experts from a number of Chinese universities will participate in a roundtable discussion on “The Digital Age Research: What Has Been Changed and What Will Change.” The discussion will focus on major digital humanities projects in the field of Chinese history and their impacts on current scholarship. Participants will discuss how digital humanities expand the horizon of historical research and will visualize the research landscape of this field in the next 20 years. Participants are from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Hunan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Professor Cai, a Liu Institute fellow, is organizing the event with Meng Jiang, a professor of computer science and engineering at Notre Dame.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be conducted in Chinese at the Beijing Global Gateway.
