Hong Lei

Hong Lei is the 10th Consul General of China in Chicago, a post he has held since 2016. Prior to this appointment, he served as Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Deputy Director General in the Department of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2010-2016). He held a number of prominent roles in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994 through 2016, including posts in the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco and the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands. As Consul General to Chicago, he and his colleagues are committed to working throughout the region to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
